My article on depicting sun rays in watercolour is available in this month’s The Artist Magazine.
Woodland light beams – creating subtle light effects in watercolour.
I describe how I depict light as it plays across the landscape using one of my paintings of sun’s rays through trees as an example. It is the light sources and lit objects that punctuate my paintings, “illuminating subjects brightly and providing variety and drama. Watercolours are particularly good at painting softer lighting that glimmers and glows through veils of thin tone. These effects have inspired many of my subjects over the decades.”
Available now from the Painters Online website.
These paintings are really lovely – I look forward to trying to learn something from them!
What should we bring with us to the class?
