The Society of Women Artists (SWA)
Our 2019 Annual Exhibition is back at London’s Mall Galleries this September.
It previews from 4pm on 24th September 2019 and runs until 1pm on Sunday 29th September 2019.
On this last day I will be demonstrating some of my watercolour gravity painting techniques. The fantastic range of art is otherwise open 10am to 5pm daily.
As an Associate of the Society, I regularly exhibit at the exhibition and am working hard on paintings for the 2019 show! I had two portraits exhibited in 2018 – one oil on canvas “Heavenly spheres” (currently featuring on the Society’s website) and a watercolour on wood panel “The calling” (pictured below).
Please email me if you would like to attend the 2019 preview.
Art Trail news:
The Wylye Valley Art Trail (WVAT) is a great collection of creatives exhibiting 18 – 27 May 2019 in the gorgeous Wiltshire/Dorset countryside.
I will be returning to my childhood home Venue 36 (pictured below):
OPEN Saturday 18 – Monday 20 May & Friday 24 – Monday 27 May
INTRODUCTORY WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOPS on two afternoons
“plein air in the garden” : Sunday 26 May 1-4pm and bank holiday Monday 27 May 1-4pm. £40 all materials provided. Bookings: workshops page.
Ever fancied painting “in an English Country Garden”?!
I’m excited to be holding two half-day Plein air workshops over this late May Bank Holiday weekend. The afternoon sessions are part of this year’s Wylye Valley Art Trail and will introduce you to Plein Air painting in watercolours at my central Venue 36. Please bring a collapsable chair and favourite watercolour brushes. I will have a board to rest on plus watercolour board and paints to use. Guidance will be given about how to start your composition and build up your painting.
Free parking outside. There is a step up to access the art studio beyond a gravel drive. In the event of rain we will move to the Stables and work from photos.
Solo Exhibition news:
My own Solo Exhibition runs biennially alternate Octobers at 44AD Artspace in the centre of Bath. The last was 11-14 October 2018 and another is planned for October 2020.
2018 Press release:
atmospherics – luminous new works by Catherine Beale ASWA:
Award-winning Bath-based painter Catherine Beale’s solo exhibition bursts with colour and luminosity. It is a celebration of the power of modern paints and a year of dramatic weather over our City – from towering shadows of thunder storms to the long, hot summer and holiday jets tracking vapour trails across clear skies.
Also featuring are her latest portraits fresh from the Society of Women Artists exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries where she is an Associate member. Catherine is grateful to kind clients who have loaned back a few of her commissioned portraits of loved ones just for the show.
Catherine says “ I really want to convey the excitement of “fast and loose” watercolours. New paints are like ink in their intensity and can be applied onto all sorts of surfaces. By dropping running paints into water, I mingle then together naturally, with surprising results. I now use intense paints from the US which contain minerals such as Hematite and Amethyst. They channel like rivers across the surface.”
