NEW VIDEO DEMOS FOR ART SOCIETIES:
I am providing watercolour demonstrations and paint-alongs simultaneously to art club members by online video link.
All details and the video itself remains private to members. Partcipants sign up through their art club programme secretary and are invited to join in by me.
Watch me paint, see step-by-step demos, ask questions and chat together.
Please email me for details.
My cascading watercolour techniques tend to loosen up painting styles and broaden the way individuals approach watercolour. I enjoy explaining them in demonstrations and workshops for art centres, groups and societies. I am told that my approach is open and friendly and that I am generous with my information.
During each session I chat about my ideas around composition, about my materials – different pigments and surfaces – and about my own “gravity painting” method to manipulate paint. I touch on current art exhibitions, literature I have read and all sorts of subjects in between.
Workshop/demo themes: these can be chosen by the art centre or group, or a session can be based around one of my many landscapes in my website galleries, or a head and shoulder portrait. Please email me for ideas and past subjects.
Workshops: what to bring: I will email a materials list for participants to bring once the theme has been chosen. Participants are usually asked to bring along several source photos to help develop their own painting. There are step-by-step demonstrations at each stage of the creative process, finishing with helpful ways to review our paintings.
Logistics: I am right handed and stand well to the left side of my painting (as viewed by the audience). My severely tilted easel helps give a clear view while I am working. I am used to using video and mics provided by the event organiser and have demonstrated and given talks to around 100 people in the past. Depending on numbers, I should be able to incorporate an element of one-to one teaching into workshops. I usually work with between 10 and 16 participants (but this is up to you.) I have worked in a large variety of venues, including large festival marquees, Regency assembly rooms and galleries, at corporate away days and retreats and even in an active milking parlour!
Areas covered: SW/S England, S Wales. Midlands and SE England for full day workshops

some comments from art groups:
“Wow !! What a great demo and hugely enjoyed by all!!” Shrivenham Defence Academy
“thank you for the wonderful day … All the participants came away feeling they had learnt some important techniques. Also, we all feel more confident… Your relaxed approach and excellent teaching meant the day was particularly enjoyable. It is lovely to use watercolour in this way.” Frome Art Group“As you doubtless realise you were indeed well-received and greatly appreciated. Your approach was a revelation and gave us all the confidence to wrestle with the Bogeyman Watercolour unafraid now.” Combe Down Art Group, Bath
“Thank you for giving us such a stimulating demonstration…It was fascinating to learn of new and effective ways with watercolour and many of us will be trying to achieve your loose yet controlled technique and the use of watercolour boards. We were in awe of the way in which you kept up an informative commentary while working, too.”Royal Tunbridge Wells Art Society
