If you are having a hard time remembering the summer heatwave then perhaps this image from my latest sketchbook will act as a reminder! It is a line and wash view of the bridge at Iford near Bath which dates from around 1400. The statue of Britannia on top is eighteenth century and appears on the ArtUK website of public art in the UK. It was placed there by Harold Peto, an Edwardian designer who lived at Iford Manor between 1899-1933. His vision makes these Italianate gardens really special.
I have made a private booking to take a group in to paint the gardens here at the height of spring colour. They will be open just for us on Tuesday morning 28th April. We’ll then work up our sketches into paintings in a tutored afternoon at the nearby Museum of Bath Stone.
