Works in progress are coming along well (though the studio around 5pm is super-hot!) Heavenly spheres is nearly finished – just the background to work up (water soluble oil painting of wonderful local violinist). My next commission is being drawn in parallel, to maintain a fresh perception of both works – a celebratory double portrait, soon to be a watercolour fresco.

New painting retreat at the manor…

This is a special opportunity to immerse yourself in gorgeous Combe Grove Manor Hotel near Bath. Paint your own masterpiece in lovely surroundings – suitable for beginners and experienced painters and perfect as a Christmas gift.

Gather images in the grounds and return to the Drawing Room to follow Catherine’s demonstrations and “gravity painting” techniques. Drop luscious paint and watch pigments cascade in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Watercolour without barriers

My website’s new banner image is a detail from my latest painting “The Calling”. It’s a take on the Virgin Mary frescoes of old. I’ve placed the sitter in a “Marian” blue carer’s uniform, fresh from work.
This is part of my ongoing experiments with new painting surfaces in an effort to bring the viewer closer to my paintings by doing away with the glass barrier.
